More autonomous, greener, more complex, faster and more flexible: Researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA have investigated how Supply Chain Management will change by the year 2040 as part of a study conducted jointly with corporate consultancy Ginkgo Management Consulting. The central question is about how companies should position themselves in the future in order to remain competitive:
- Will positioning based on product quality, price, short delivery time and high delivery reliability be sufficient in the future?
- Which innovative and digital services along the supply chain offer competitive advantages in addition to the physical products?
- How important will the use of technologies such as artificial intelligence or blockchain be?
- How can flexibility and resilience in the supply chain be sustainably organized?
The study examines and discusses the above as well as other factors and tries to provide participants and decision-makers in logistics with classification and orientation for the future.
