A better-qualified workforce is a key need for industries worldwide. This is especially true for small industries such as electroplating in areas like the ASEAN region with its less intensively developed vocational training compared to Germany. For Thailand, as part of the ASEAN community, project SCHOOLPLATE works on developing and establishing vocational education and training measures for a better future education of employees in the Thai electroplating industry.
One key element of SCHOOLPLATE is the demand-driven workflow; therefore, an online company survey was carried out between July - Sep. 2020. The survey generated insights about the following topics:
- Characteristics of Thai electroplating companies
- Local distribution of companies
- Applied materials and methods
- Qualification needs of their employees
- Types of work tasks
- Current skill gaps in the given workforce
- Current and potential future demand for skilled labor
The survey lays the foundation for future qualification measures for the Thai electroplating industry, whether they are referring to continuing (C-VET) or initial vocational education and training (I-VET). SCHOOLPLATE will further develop these measures with the aim of achieving an easy implementation and anchoring in the Thai education system.
Contributing to design and conduct the initial survey were the following people:
Eva Hanau, Dominique-Navina Pantke, Klaus Schmid, Prof. Yuttanant Boonyongmaneerat,
