The project “Adaptive assembly assistance and interaction system using 3-D scene analysis and intuitive man-machine communication”, abbreviated from the German to “MonSiKo”, focused on aiding assembly processes through the use of modern sensor and communication technologies.
There are still many assembly tasks that have to be carried out manually for technical or economic reasons. The semi-automated assembly assistance system “MonSiKo“ was developed to support workers in learning new repetitive work processes and to prevent errors.
Thanks to intelligent algorithms and powerful 3-D sensors, the assistance system recognizes which work step is currently being carried out and intervenes if errors occur. If, for example, the worker picks up the wrong component, a red light illuminates. The worker can control the system by means of multimodal and intuitive human-machine communication. In addition to the touch screen, speech recognition is available for this purpose. The operator is required to make as little input as possible in order to keep the operating effort as low as possible. The assistance system can also be configured quickly and freely via the integrated interfaces.
The consortium, comprising Sikom Software GmbH, RUCK GmbH & Co.KG, robomotion GmbH, FARO Europe GmbH & Co. KG and Fraunhofer IPA was complemented by associated partners who tested the developments at their own facilities.
